K2 are extremely proud of Principal Electronics Engineer, Angela Delbridge, who, despite it being the hottest day of 2017 so far, successfully completed the Brighton Marathon last week to raise an amazing £900 for Maternity Worldwide. Achieving a personal goal in completing her first full marathon, as well as raising money for this fantastic cause, Angela finished the 26.2 mile route round Brighton seafront in a superb 4 hours and 43 minutes. A great run for a great charity and K2 are extremely proud of Angela for taking on this challenge and the tremendous effort she has put in to achieve her target in aid of this worthwhile organisation.
Maternity Worldwide work with local healthcare providers, NGOs and local governments to help women and girls access high quality maternity healthcare. From training midwives, doctors and healthcare workers, to providing essential equipment and resources, Maternity Worldwide’s integrated approach has saved countless lives and has empowered women to take control and be the decision makers in their own reproductive and sexual health. Currently focusing on vital projects in Malawi, Uganda and Ethiopia, Maternity Worldwide is working hard to train, support, inspire and empower women and fulfil the unmet needs of local communities in a sustainable way.
1 in 22 women die in pregnancy and childbirth in developing countries and so having a midwife or skilled birth attendant present at birth is one of the most effective interventions to save lives. Raising money for Maternity Worldwide was key in Angela’s decision to run the marathon since learning more about this crucial charity following fund raising by K2 in recent years. She tackled the challenge, that much more so because of the heat, with grit and determination to achieve her target.
Angela said of the run, “Completing a marathon has been a fantastic experience and something I’d very much recommend to others. I didn’t have a target time, wanting only to run the whole distance and to try and enjoy participating in the overall event. Fortunately I was able to achieve both these goals, despite the heat. Knowing that the work of Maternity Worldwide would benefit also made a big difference, and I would like to thank my friends, family and colleagues who have given to the cause. Thank you.”
K2 are so very proud of Angela and are delighted she has raised such a fantastic amount for Maternity Worldwide. All funds are vital for their work and, with just £80 a month to train a midwife in Africa, we know Angela’s efforts will make a significant difference to the work they can do. Well done, Angela!
